ANIMAL CARE TEAM MEMBER

As part of the Animal Care Team, you will have a great opportunity to make a difference in the world of companion animal welfare. Sydney Dogs and Cats Home understands that the best way to improve the welfare of the animals in our community is to support the people who care for them; this role will have a strong focus on the human-animal bond and will combine high quality customer care with best practice animal care.

The role is flexible and dynamic and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to help grow this already highly regarded animal welfare organisation. The possibilities are endless in the number of animals, and their humans, that we can assist.

The role will include:

-           Responding to animal care enquiries from members of the community and problem solving to provide high level service for each case

-           Participation in community education programs, student and volunteer training and animal welfare events

-           All aspects of daily animal care within the clinic and shelter including receiving and processing incoming and exiting animals, cleaning, feeding, exercising, socialising, behavioural modification and enrichment

-           Basic medical care of animals including vaccination, microchipping and preventive treatments, and assisting the veterinary staff

-           Participation in animal behaviour modification and training, both for shelter and client animals

-           Counselling members of the public on animal care issues including adoption, reclaim and surrender of animals

-           Transportation of animals between sites and to rescue and adoption partners

The successful applicant will have:

-           Excellent customer service skills

-           A passion for companion animal welfare

-           Compassion and empathy for humans and animals in need

-           Strong written and verbal communication skills

-           A desire to teach and support others within the animal welfare industry

-           Strong animal handling skills and an interest in animal behaviour

-           A positive outlook and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the organisation

-           The ability to work closely with a team as well as autonomously

-           A current NSW driver’s license and their own vehicle

A recognised qualification in animal studies, animal behaviour, veterinary nursing, social studies or other relevant area and/or experience working in the animal welfare or community welfare industries will be highly regarded.

Veterinary Nurse

The position of Veterinary Nurse presents a great opportunity for an experienced veterinary nurse looking to make a difference in the world of companion animal welfare.  Sydney Dogs and Cats Home understands that the best way to improve the welfare of the animals in our community is to support the people who care for them; this role will have a strong focus on the human-animal bond and will combine high quality customer care with best practice animal care.

The role is flexible and dynamic and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to help grow this already highly regarded animal welfare organisation.  The possibilities are endless in the number of animals, and their humans, that we can assist.

The successful applicant will have:

-           A relevant veterinary nursing qualification and at least 3 years of clinical nursing experience

-           A passion for companion animal welfare

-           Compassion and empathy for humans and animals in need

-           Excellent customer service skills

-           Strong written and verbal communication skills

-           A positive outlook and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the organisation

-           The ability to work closely as a team as well as autonomously

-           Experience working in the animal welfare and/or community welfare industries will be highly regarded
