Community Guidelines on Sydney Dogs & Cats Home social media 

For almost 80 years, Sydney Dogs & Cats Home has reunited and rehomed lost and abandoned animals. We strive to rehome every treatable animal that comes through our doors, and we never place a time limit on any animal awaiting adoption.

Please know that all Sydney Dogs & Cats Home social media pages are monitored during business hours, Monday to Friday, by a very small team. We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium, however, our moderation capabilities are not. We trust in the maturity of the community to ignore personal attacks and negative speech, or to respond politely and with restraint.

We acknowledge that animal welfare is a topic that can elicit passionate and emotional reactions from our diverse audiences. The following guidelines aren’t intended to keep any negative or critical comments from being shared. We welcome the community’s participation with our page and encourage comments and feedback of all kinds. However, we will restrict comments or users that are offensive or abusive toward our team and community.

To keep our page a safe place for all, and to ensure exchanges are productive, informative, lawful and respectful of diverse viewpoints, we will review all posts and comments, and retain the right to remove (hide or delete) any post or comment that are or include:

• Inappropriate, counterproductive or hostile commentary
• Spam. Unnecessarily repetitive comments, comments focused on selling a product or services or comments posted for the purpose of driving traffic to a particular website for personal, political or monetary gain
• Personal attacks. You are welcome to disagree with the content produced by either Sydney Dogs & Cats Home or a member of the community. However, we ask that you refrain from personal attacks or comments that are disrespectful of others
• Offensive language. Comments including, but not limited to, profane or provocative language, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive or derogatory content, threats, obscene, or sexually explicit language will not be tolerated
• Private or confidential information. This includes comments containing specific account details or personal information, and extends to private addresses, email accounts, social media logins, etc
• Defamation. Any post or comment that is defamatory of any person or organisation

Violations of the above guidelines may cause the author to be blocked from official Sydney Dogs and Cats Home social media pages.
