Minnie

ADOPTED Just wanted to send you an email to let you know how Minnie is going. We have had her at home for two and a half weeks now, and we are pleased to say she has really made our place her own.

Her older brother Christopher (18 month old shorthair), is not too sure what to make of her... he goes from vigorously licking her, to pouncing on her. She too is not too sure what to make of him - it's still a mutually curious relationship. But for a little girl who has been through so much, she certainly isn't afraid of Christopher, and does a great job at sticking up for herself; who said a cat even needs four legs!?

She really likes to sleep on our heads/faces/shoulders, and truly believes the pillows we sleep on are actually hers. She is soooo affectionate and snuggly, which is nice after having such an aloof boy in Christopher. She loves to tease Christopher by hiding under the bed (he can't fit), and they have a good old game of slapping paws.

Despite the fact that I try to cater to each of their culinary tastes, no matter what I feed them, they like the other one's food better. So we have given up, and have a laugh at how desparate they are to get to each other's food bowls.

For a three legged little thing, she can jump up so high! The desk or the kitchen bench are already a piece of cake for her.

We've attached some photos of her. Her hair is really growing back nicely although it's still got some way to go.

Thank you to everyone who looked after her during her ordeal, she has such a beautiful personality, and was obviously loved by all of you and clearly has put her bad start to life well and truly behind her.

Ziggy

ADOPTEDWas in Happy TailsHi, I just wanted to give you a quick update on Ziggy, who has quickly and happily settled into his new home and routine. He’s made a lot of new friends, both canine and human, at the local dog park, where he gets a warm enthusiastic welcome each morning often followed by treats. And in my attempt to help him lose a few kilos and counter the effects of the morning treats, he’s forcing me to get fit. I have even given up my gym membership; who needs the gym when you’re going for two walks a day, seven days a week. Ziggy is also the most effective alarm clock I’ve ever had. He’s been a perfect addition to my life and I want to thank you for looking after him all those months before I found him. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Diesel (Formerly known as Bingo)

ADOPTEDWas in Happy Tails4 years ago I adopted Diesel (was called Bingo) from SDCH at Mardi Gras Fair Day. You can see Diesel – the brown Dingo Kelpi X - at the far right of the attached pic with the rest of her family – Macy (the white Staffy Cross from Staffy Rescue) and the two naughty Boxer brothers – Bert & Ernie.

Diesel has been the most beautiful, affectionate and loyal dog – inseparable from her pack! I've been so happy to send other people to SDCH for cats and dogs over the year, with Deezy being a shining example!

Sadly my other dog from SDCH which I adopted in 2000 passed away last year, but he had the most fantastic 10 years with us.

Thank you for everything you do!

Ed

Toby nicknamed "P" for Pushy Poodle

ADOPTEDToby has settled in well with my other 2 dogs, making him No. 3.

As you can see in the attached photo he is using my little dog Keira as a comfortable pillow to lay on. She is a very placid little dog who was rescued from PAWS in November.

After the initial introduction Toby did his share of snapping at the other two dogs, but all have settled in quite well and hang out together. Toby loves the park and I take him to Bones Cafe where he mingles with lots of dogs. (plenty of socializing)

Wish I could rescue all of the dogs, so many lovely dogs at the Pounds.

I nickname Toby (P - P for pushy poodle)....he loves pushing everyone else out....my 13 old poodle Gemma put him in place last night, so I think he is learning to stand in line now..Ha Ha !!!!

Regards
Denise

Kara

ADOPTEDWas in Happy TailsWe adopted Kara from the SDCH early last year, we thought we would send you some pictures to update you on Kara.We would like to thank the SDCH for giving us Kara, we are lucky to have her! Regards, The Alexander family xx

Leroy

ADOPTEDHi Girls,

How lucky am I !!!!!!!!

I love my new home.

Everyone fusses over me and when I go for walks people comment on how handsome I am.

I have made many new friends in the neighbourhood.

My mum and dad keep telling me that I am the bestest boy in the whole world.

They keep saying how lucky they are to have me in their lives.

Thank you to all the volunteers and staff who walked and looked after me over the months that I was at SDCH.

I will come and visit soon.

Lots of Love Leroy (Barnes)

Brutus

ADOPTED

Gracie (of Merlin and Grace)

ADOPTEDI came home with my mum on 16th July 2009. It was a sad day but also a happy day. I said goodbye to my beautiful big pal, Merlin, who lost his fight with bone cancer but it was a happy day because I was going to my forever home.

I was very lucky because my mum had known me since the day I came into SDCH. She would always take Merlin and I for walks and even brought us both home, many times, for hours of wandering around the garden and lying in the sun together.

I have three new animal brothers, two dogs and a cat, who is much bigger than me. At first, I tried to be the top dog but soon found out that was not going to happen. My 15 year old brother is the boss. Even though I still jump into his bed when he’s not there and occasionally growl when he wants to reclaim it.

I have teamed up with my dashund brother and at first would play with him all the time. I spend a lot of the time sleeping with him in his bed. I’ve even got on top of him once like I did with Merlin. Quite often we all play musical beds and nobody is in the right bed. At the moment I enjoy sleeping in the cat igloo.

I have settled in now because I no longer follow mum all around the house. I’m quite happy to sit outside in the garden or relax with the rest of the gang on the couch. I have the routine down pat. I know when it is food time and will remind mum about supper before she goes to bed. I enjoy my food and will eat everything that is put in my bowl. I know when it is walk time and have two everyday. Of course, you still find me way out in front while my brothers lag behind. I always enjoy a good bark at the staffy and Labrador that live up the road.

My human sister says that I am a wuss and mum agrees. I scream if I think the cat is going to scratch me or if something falls and it comes nowhere near me. I still hate the vacuum cleaner and brooms and hide under the bed when there is lightning and thunder.

I always drive mum and my cat brother mad at dinner time. I’m very impatient waiting for my food. I run round and round the island bar, whining, growling and barking at the cat. I do this for about ten minutes until I get my food. The cat is very good because he just sits there and tries to ignore me.

My new family love me. Mum calls me Gracie Queen. She even nurses me when my brothers aren’t looking. It’s very competitive when we are all trying to get attention. But being so small I always manage to push in and get plenty. I’m a very lucky girl.

Liku (now Abbie)

ADOPTEDJust to let you know that I am as happy as sunshine at my new home!!! Everybody spoils me and I love them a lot . This has been the best time in my life with them.

They give me so much attention and I love when they take me for a long walk every day.

I sleep inside on my comfortable sheep skin rug. I have lots of teddies that I hug at night so I don't get nightmares. My owners give me the best care and so much love. Thank you for taking care of me until they found me!!!

This is a good picture of me watching TV. My dad even lets me take over the remote!!!

Scout

Hi Just thought I would send a photo of Scout (previously known as Colt). I adopted Scout last year and she is now a much loved member of our family. Apart from a few indiscretions with the destruction of bedding she is the perfect dog. Very smart and obedient (mostly), affectionate, great around kids and other dogs and a fabulous companion. Thanks so much for the work you do and for offering dogs like Scout a second chance at happiness. Kind regards Rebecca

Reg

Reg is just such a treasure, we are totally in love with him, His pug brother and sister, Ollie and Coco, are so relaxed and happy around him, you would think he’s always lived with us. He is getting stronger every day, (can jump up onto my bed now!!!!!) and loves his games with the other pugs, even the old cat ,Patsy, has fallen for him, such a charmer!!! Thank you to everyone involved in saving Reg, he will be visitor to SDCH and never forget all your kindnesses.

Marvin aka Baron

Hi thereWe adopted ‘Baron’ last year, a ‘Jug’ following the death of our Maggie.Initially we had a few concerns regarding Marvin’s boisterous nature and our 3 year old daughter. I even rang SDCH a couple of times to talk about returning him. I’m here to say I’m glad we persevered. Marvin has come a long way.We often say Marvin landed with his bum in the butter as he is very spoilt. He has the run of the house, is walked twice daily, gets treats and fresh food prepared lovingly by hand and receives plenty of love. In saying this Marvin is well behaved mostly and has so much character he deserves everything he gets.I would never again get a puppy. I feel so rewarded now by the work we put into Marvin initially and he is devoted to us totally. I expect Marvin will live with us to a ripe old age and once he goes we will be back to take on our next dog from SDCH.We also got a cat from the pound and although they are not exactly friendly, Marvin has learned to live with Lily in peace mostly.Keep up the wonderful work that you do.Samantha

Lindy now known as Bella

Hi There! remember me? My name was Lindy, but my new humans have named me Bella.I'm very happy here in my new home. I have a big brother and sister and 3 humans of my own to look after me. My brother and sister came from Sydney Dogs Home too! Boo (a Staffy) was adopted by my humans about 6 years ago when he was about 4 years old, and Mishka (a Kelpie cross) was adopted about 5 years ago when she was 10 weeks old. They love it here too. I was a little unsure of them at first, but my humans kept introducing us for short periods of time each day, and now we all get along just fine. I like hanging out with Boo the best. He's very gentle like a big teddy bear. I love to follow him about and snuggle in next to him when I get the chance. It's very important that I rush out and bark whenever they do, they need some help sounding scary so I like to lend a hand, but for some reason my humans find this funny.I have a lovely big bed that I get to share with my main human every night, I have a big comfy lounge that I let my main human share with me in the day, and every afternoon we all hang out in the park over the road. I've decided to reveal a bit more about myself every day. My silly humans kept buying me lots of boring toys to play with, finally I found a screwed up brown paper bag! Those things keep you entertained for hours! Don't my humans know anything? At least now they keep a constant supply of them for me so I can throw it in the air and run around it in crazy circles barking.Just yesterday I decided to show them that I can climb a human like a monkey when I want something, and I also like to do a few crazy dance moves that keep my humans laughing for ages.Well thanks for looking after me at the Sydney Dogs Home, I'll be back for a little visit in a week or two. My humans promised you some photos so we hope you like them, they love the ones with all of us adopted doggies hanging out together. Boo and Mishka say thanks too!See you guys again soon,Bella

Chip

Hi there I am writing to provide an update on Chip who I adopted almost a month ago.He is one amazing dog and I now understand why it took a while for the volunteers to say goodbye. He always keeps us entertained with his curious personality. He loves his walks, tummy rubs and a good cuddle or shall I say many many many cuddles. He now has a companion called Belle and they are amazing together. Belle has recently been desexed and Chip has taken on the responsibility of grooming her not to mention lying in bed together cuddling. I have never seen such a quick transition between two dogs which I put down to Chip's loving nature. I want to say a huge thankyou to all the volunteers and staff at SDCH. You do an amazing job in sometimes a not so easy environment. Chip has settled in well and i look forward to many more years of joy with him. We love him dearly :-) Kind regards Sarah

Nancy now Tasha

Here she is. We have named her Tasha. She has settled in really well. She and Jet get on like a house on fire I think she's feeling the love life is good :)

Macho now known as Minerva

HelloHow are things going with all my old friends at the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home? Please say hello to everyone for me.I'm now known as Minerva, or Minnie for short, which I like better than Macho. I am having a great time - here is a picture of my on the lounge taken this morning. The Human that I live with is pretty good – the food is great and I even have a garden to play in!I met my new brother Orlando the first day I came here and he has been back once since then. Between you and me he is a complete Pillock. I promise I used my very best manners and was friendly but all he wanted to do was growl and howl and carry on like a pork chop. And then when I was politely restrained and calm he seemed to take even more offence and ran off! How can you be friends with someone like that?Anyway I had better go. Just wanted to drop you a line to say all is well and thank you so much for providing a home for me when I needed one.All my love Minnie
